位于鼻腔外上方筛骨迷路内，由气化程度不同的含气小房构成，每侧有3-18个小的气房，气房的大小、排列及伸展范围极不规则，两侧极不对称。筛窦小房变异很大，但都有不同程度的发育。发育良好的筛窦，其气房可伸展入额窦底部、蝶窦上方或侧方、上颌窦后上方及额骨眶部等处，个别的还可通过鼻中隔到达对侧鼻腔或向上伸入鸡冠。
